Arms deal: EFCC seals more properties of military officers

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has sealed more houses allegedly owned by military officers being investigated in the arms procurement scam, Daily Trust gathered on Wednesday.

Operatives of the Commission on Wednesday raided the locations around Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) sealing buildings at different places in the city, a source told Daily Trust.

Some properties allegedlly belonging to retired officers were sealed in Kaduna earlier in the week by the EFCC.

It was further learnt that no arrest was made during the raid, although the buildings are said to have been traced to some of the military officers indicted by a report of the Presidential committee investigating arms procurement in the military.

The buildings are said to have been marked with red paints in the initials “EFCC” and at other places “EFCC Keep Off” boldly written on the walls and gates of the structures.

President Muhammadu Buhari ordered the probe of $2.1 billion meant for arms purchase which was diverted to other political purposes during the administration of Goodluck Jonathan, a period which covers the appointment of over five Service chiefs.

An interim audit report by a Presidential probe panel had recommended further investigation of some serving and retired military officers over their alleged involvement in the arms procurement fraud.
