Valentine's Day Election: Students Have A Message For INEC

Students of various higher institutions across the country have called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to reschedule the presidential and National Assembly elections fixed for Feb. 14, 2015.
The students who expressed shock over the choice of date for 2015 presidential elections said the change it was necessary to reschedule as majority of the youths would be busy celebrating Valentine's day and may not be able to go to the polling booths to cast their votes.

Speaking with journalist, Dele Oge, a student of Mass Communication at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka said, "I do not know why INEC did not consider the interest of youths in the country before fixing that election. Everybody knows that every Feb. 14 is celebrated as St. Valentine’s Day and majority of the people involved in the celebration are youths of voting age. The INEC should please change that date as youths are also interested in exercising their franchise."
A student of the Federal Polytechnic, Idah in Kogi, Onyinye Urama, expressing her disappointment over the
date said her family always go to church on Valentine's day and she won't be allowed to go anywhere else. She added that if the date is not changed many youths would be disenfranchised.
Lending his voice to the matter, Ifeanyi Oguama, a student of the Institute of Management Technology (IMT), Enugu, pleaded with the Federal government to compel INEC to change that election date in the interest of youths to ensure good turn-out of voters that day.
